The Welsh Government’s local lockdown of Cardiff County will now impact on our Walks Programme. All walks must be within the Cardiff county bounday. NB. Cardiff group members living in other lockdown areas may organise walks in their own area, for other members in the same county only. All restrictions (as per 2nd August below) still apply.

The Welsh Government’s local lockdown of Caerphilly County will impact on our Walks Programme.

Towns in this area include Caerphilly, Bedwas, Risca, Ystrad Mynach, Newbridge, Blackwood, Bargoed, New Tredegar and Rhymney.

Four planned walks have been withdrawn from the Ramblers website as they involve entering Caerphilly County.

Until the restriction is lifted we will be unable to include walks within the Caerphilly county area.

Caerphilly County residents should not lead nor join our walks.

2nd August 2020 - Walks are restarting the weekend of August 7th. 

Members are asked to read the Ramblers guide to restarting walks at https://www.ramblers.org.uk/volunteer-zone/coronavirus.aspx and especially the attached ‘Ramblers Restart: Taking part in COVID-safe walks’ if you want to join a group walk.

Numbers of walkers will have to be limited to within the guidance of the Welsh Government and Ramblers C.O. at the time of writing, this is 30 participants. It may be that due to the nature of the walk offered or other factors, the walk leader may decide to set a limit lower than the maximum suggested by the official advice.

If walk numbers are restricted, then in order to take part in the walk and control numbers to the maximum permissible, members will have to contact the walk leader by telephone or email in order to reserve a place on the walk. For any particular walk, the walk leader will allocate names for the walk on a first come – first served basis, up to the maximum allowed. If the walk is very much undersubscribed, the walk leader has the discretion to cancel the walk and inform the registered walkers of this.

It is a requirement for covid 19 contact tracing and Ramblers insurance, that the walk leader will record the names of the attendees and also their contact number. This requirement can be met by the fact that Ramblers have to contact the walk leader in order to register for the walk. Ramblers who turn up unannounced may not take part in the walk, unless the walk is undersubscribed and that the walk leader is agreeable to them taking part. We will only use contact information you provide to get in touch about the walk or to share, if requested, with NHS Test and Trace. Be assured that walkers’ names and contact numbers will be held for a period of 21 days only, after which the record will be destroyed.

Car sharing – unfortunately, at the present time, the Ramblers position is that car sharing is not recommended with anyone outside of your household or social bubble. The only exception is where the journey is essential and no other option is available. We are advising that the meeting points of Ararat Church and the Sherman Theatre will not be used. Walkers will have to make their own way to the designated start point to meet the walk leader there. Walk leaders are encouraged to offer more local circular walks with later start times.

We are aware that members travelling independently to the start point could very well cause issues with the number of parking spaces available. It is requested that members park considerately and if the car park (or other area) is full, they park considerately nearby if possible or, do not take part in the walk.

Please be aware that all members talking part in a walk are responsible for their own safety and it is strongly advised that they carry a basic first aid kit. Ensure that the kit includes as a minimum, plasters, sanitising gel, wipes and a face mask. A plastic bag should be carried for disposing of any used first aid kit. It is the walker’s responsibility to adhere to the social distancing guidelines during the walk.

Members should not attend a walk if they are self-isolating and/or have Covid-19 symptoms.

Subsequent to the walk, if any member who took part develops the symptoms of Coronavirus, or has tested positive for it, they must inform the walk leader at the first opportunity. The walk leader will advise the Cardiff Ramblers Group Secretary of this event.

 

13 July 2020 All walks are still cancelled. Group walks remain suspended in Wales. Hopefully we will be able to restart activities in the not too distant future. As soon as Ramblers Cymru give the approval we will consider how best to return to some sort of normal. There may be limits to numbers, which might require a booking system. Leaders will be expected to carry out a risk assessment, and avoid locations where close contact is unavoidable. Further information will be given when available.
