More Capital Walks 2022
December 2022 Our book of walks in the Cardiff area - More Capital Walks - was first published in 1997. The route descriptions were becoming out of date, so we have been updating the routes and descriptions to reflect changes to the area and the routes over the last 25 years. So far 12 of the 14 walks have been revised, and most of the revised walks have also been checked by a second walker. Group members and non-members alike are encouraged to get outside, and try out these routes. They vary from under 4 to over 10 miles in length, some flat countryside, some hillier, and all just on the outskirts of the capital city. All have directions to the start by car, bus and train where possible, so no excuse not to get walking in our beautiful surroundings.
Annual General Meeting November 2022
The 2022 Annual General Meeting will be held at the Ararat Centre in Whitchurch on Monday 7th November. See the agenda.
A motion has been received proposing that "It is environmentally and financially wasteful to send a printed program to members twice a year and this should cease and we should encourage continued use of the website and emails as a preference." See details.
Coronavirus update 16th April 2021
Group walks are allowed to restart from 26th April.
The requirements that Walk Leaders will have to adhere to are the same as the previous restart:
1. Submit walk details for website entry: Required for walk to be covered by Ramblers insurance.
2. Complete a risk assessment: complete attached Risk Assessment template for each walk and retain for 12 months. Required by Welsh Government and Ramblers insurers.
3. Take a register: complete attached register template and retain for 21 days. Required to support NHS contact tracing.
4. Stay safe by physically distancing: follow government guidelines on physical distancing. Ramblers will not be organising car sharing, walkers to meet at the walk start point.
NB. Also try to avoid busy, popular areas – please consider the impact on local communities in your planning.
AGM cancellation
Committee meeting 7th January 2021: AGM cancelled
It was not possible to hold an AGM meeting as scheduled last November. It was hoped that this might have become possible by now, but tht is looking increasingly unlikely. Although a meeting could be held on-line, this is not very satisfactory, and would still require the cost of notification of all members. It was decided that there is no legal requirement to hold the meeting, and no business sufficiently pressing to warant the expense. It was decided to postpone any business until November, when hopefully we may have a traditional meeting. This means that effectively this year's AGM is cancelled.
For annual report and treasurer's report, see the Annual Reports page.
